Cheerleading is defined as competitive sport involving organized routines including elements of dance and gymnastics.
It exists to encourage crowds to cheer on sports teams as well as to compete in the field of play as all other sports do. Some claim that it is not a sport at all, but a popularity contest. To the contrary, there are many facts to prove otherwise.
Three points commonly qualify an activity as a sport, cheerleading meets each of these requirements. It must be a physical activity that involves propelling a mass through space or overcoming a resistance of mass. Competing against an opponent is required. It must be governed by rules that explicitly define the time, space, and purpose of the contest and the conditions under which a winner is declared. Without a doubt, cheerleading is a sport.
Although many people think that cheerleading is just a big popularity contest and an opportunity for girls to dance and look cute, it requires refined skills to perform extremely difficult gymnastics and dance moves.
